www.merseylibraries.org is a project to enable a single search interface to all of the libraries in Merseyside. The ZeeRex format is used to describe the Z39.50 servers which are designated as part of the service. The system allows for both Archival descriptions and MARC records to be searched and displayed, making full use of ZeeRex's capacity for accurately describing semantically equivalent indexes.
Without ZeeRex, MerseyLibraries would have to manually be configured for each new database. The ZeeRex record format allows us to expand the service gracefully and seamlessly, with a minimum of effort.
